Matthew Stern is a craft artist who received his Bachelors in Fine Arts from Virginia Commonwealth University in the Craft and Material studies department. While his initial introduction to craft was ceramics, once he started to work with glass his focus transferred to the hot glass studio. His knowledge and understanding of the materials started to inform each other. While inspiration for his creations can often be inspired by patterns and colorways found in nature, Matthew finds that being in the studio and creating can inform and inspire the next work or series. Making is learning, and it comes in many different forms
